Yeah, no kidding one of the most depressing songs ever: https://youtu.be/T69Yk6IccL0 – The end is the Beginning is the End (Batman and Robin soundtrack)

Also one of the best tracks ever.

I think they’re just generally placed in the center white area, meaning they are equally angry, horny, sad and happy. Everyone in the center white is equally part of all four no matter where in the white they were placed.

It wouldn’t be easy to list everyone in the center and say that if their name was slightly to one side or not meant they were more angry, happy, horny or sad. I think that’s why OP just made a huge white area in the center.

Also even “Today” is not a happy song lol. From Wikipedia:

After the release and minor success of the band’s debut album, Gish, the Smashing Pumpkins were being hyped as “the next Nirvana”. However, the band was experiencing several difficulties at the time. Drummer Jimmy Chamberlin was undergoing an increasingly severe addiction to heroin; James Iha and D’arcy Wretzky had recently broken up their romantic relationship; and Billy Corgan had become depressed to the point of contemplating suicide and plagued by writer’s block. Corgan recalled that “after the first album, I became completely suicidal. It was an eight-month depression, give or take a month, and I was pretty suicidal for about two or three months.”

The dark, ironic lyrics of “Today”, describing a day when Corgan was feeling depressed and suicidal, contrast with the instrumentation. Michael Snyder of the San Francisco Chronicle said that the song is “downright pretty as rock ballads go” but that “Corgan manages to convey the exhilaration and tragic release he seeks.” Corgan told Rolling Stone that “I was really suicidal … I just thought it was funny to write a song that said today is the greatest day of your life because it can’t get any worse.” Corgan later compared writing the lyrics of “Today” and “Disarm” to “ripping [his] guts out”.

While there’s a lot of disagreement on where bands belong, I think Rage Against the Machine as the pinnacle of Angry Music is one we can all agree with.

Big Naked. Nine in Nails. Marylin Manson. Our Lady Peace, Alanis Morissette. There’s quite a few that could be both. But, alas, this is only a two axis graphic ;)

Also, how to tell I grew up on Canadian radio…

Uh, they put sublime under happy because it’s Ska-like. I don’t think whoever made this chart ever listened to any of the words.

What I got is arguably their happiest song, and it’s painfully obvious it’s a depressed person reminding himself that life can be enjoyed, is worth living, even when everything is shit.

Angry vs horny as a single axis…

NIN seems to have an angry tone. March of pigs, wish, hand that feeds, head like a hole. There is one sad balad as a cover. There is one horny lyric song, that also happens to be on the happier than sad side.

The angry/horny axis is silly. Go listen to Stinkfist by Tool and tell me a song can’t be both.

I went to NIN, Manson opened and Jim Rose Circus sideshow ran in between.

I had shitty seats in the back corner of my mid-sized venue. There were parents all around me in the cheap seats. There were no kids with them, but they were obviously looking for their kids.

The main floor was a sea of 90% under-aged goth chicks smoking.

The parents were all solemn and quiet.

        Lights went down

Spot came up, the screeching cheer of 10k girls pierced my eardums. Manson walked out on stage

MANSON: “HOW MANY 14 YEAR OLD GIRLS WANT TO FUCK ME”

The GA seats double down on screaming.

All the parents went from disinterested concern to outright anger.

In OP’s perpective, placing NIN where it is is entirely based on Closer, and nothing else. Hurt could be sad without being horny.

It is possible to view Closer as horny and happy. The infactucation bringing him closer to god, is a successful antidote to the sadness he expresses them curing. Also the horniness infatuation in itself is a pursuit of happiness. IMO, if you see the cure for your sadness right before you, you cannot be/no longer sad. So, as it resonates to me, closer is happy and horny, not sad, despite lyrical evidence of sadness.

March of pigs live is totally different to the Fragile version. Latter is sad, Live is insane angry.

The Perfect drug is a bit of remake of closer, lyrically. Cleaner, but same. Drugs make you happy. More of a rhythmic masterpiece. Only is also post 2000 great that could be in the sad tab.

Only ones I’ve ever heard are Radiohead and Rage against the Machine.
    Sincerely, genZ

Anyway are yall telling me there are no bands that are both horny and angry?

    Edit:
I was probably wrong about Radiohead. Maybe I mixed them up with radioactive by imagine dragons?

Check them out. Some are great (Cranberries and Blur for example). I also guess you’ll know more than you think.

Nirvana In Utero is my favorite record of all time.

They aren’t my favorite band, but my god that record hits me right where I need it.

Not trying to throw an unrelated comment, just hoping the commenter gives it a go too.
