The US constitution is in peril. Civil and human rights are being trampled upon. The economy is in disarray.

At this rate, we will not make it through the second 100 days.

Federal judges in more than 120 cases so far have sought to stop Trump – judges appointed by Republicans as well as Democrats, some appointed by Trump himself – but the regime is either ignoring or appealing their orders. It has even arrested a municipal judge in Milwaukee amid a case involving an undocumented defendant.

Recently, Judge J Harvie Wilkinson III of the court of appeals for the fourth circuit – an eminent conservative Reagan appointee who is revered by the Federalist Society – issued a scathing rebuke to the Trump regime. In response to its assertion that it can abduct residents of the US and put them into foreign prisons without due process, Wilkinson wrote:

If today the Executive claims the right to deport without due process and in disregard of court orders, what assurance will there be tomorrow that it will not deport American citizens and then disclaim responsibility to bring them home? And what assurance shall there be that the Executive will not train its broad discretionary powers upon its political enemies? The threat, even if not the actuality, would always be present, and the Executive’s obligation to ‘take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed’ would lose its meaning.

I think it’s hilarious how the public seems to be waiting for their representatives to do something while at the same time, the representatives are stoking the fire, waiting for the public to do something.

All the while the orange dude is using immigrants for ICE, FBI and other LEOs to practice on … so they’ll be ready to shut the revolution down immediately.

I do really feel for all the Americans who didn’t vote or ask for this, 'cause it’s gonna be ugly.

It won’t be ugly for most of them. It’ll be fucking peachy. There will be no revolution.

“The revolution will be painless if the left allows it to be” well the left has made its choice and every minority will be left to rot in the concentration camps because demonstrably americans have utterly buckled to the mere implication of potential violence.

Hopefully America will be like Russia, violent and authoritarian with severely declining quality of life and a broadly politically apathetic population.
Alternatively - and increasingly likely - it will be like Nazi Germany and the fascists will make up for declining quality of life by engaging in increasingly doomed military campaigns.

Either way the ones who could have done something to stop this will be the least affected while everyone else gets crushed under the boot of fascism. But at least they will have the moral high ground of never resorting to political violence.

That will work until the Executive decides they aren’t needed any longer. A big “Go home, Capitol closed by executive order until the emergency has passed” sign on the Capitol doors. Those that ignore the sign wake up in some third world prison or as the next contestant on 47’s newest prime time game show, Who Wants to be Treated as an Insurrectionist Traitor. Their best bet is to organize a fast track impeachment before 47 can stop them, but the longer this all goes on, the faster that whole impeachment thing would need to occur.

The one and only thing I will ever recommend to people is to stop having kids. Just … fucking … stop. Whatever happens, this will at least mean fewer casualties.

And before someone says “yabbut the right are going to have more kids.” So what? Unless you are planning on upping the ante with a breeding arms race (which is a ridiculous self-own), it seems like even more of a reason to opt out.

    Upcoming crisis-es:

-May 2nd : End of De minimis exemption: Orders under $80 will no longer be exempt from tariffs from China

-May 7th: All flights will require a driver’s license with real ID (new licenses after ~2015)

-The X date: Day U.S. spending cap is reached. Earliest is June, expected around August. Would cut off all federal spending including SS and Medicare.

-The X date bill: Bill that would raise the spending cap through reconciliation – but also cut either Medicaid or the Obamacare Medicare expansion. This would lead to, among many things, most rural hospitals being shut down.

-August-September: With the Department of Education no longer working student loans and accommodation requests will be thrown into chaos

-August – November: Harvest season w/o immigrants and w/o USAID contracts. Mass farmer bankruptcy , but limited time cheap food.

-Nov-Dec: Big Box stores see empty shelves due to tariffs. Smaller stores see it earlier, but Target and Walmart will have warehouse inventory until Black Friday.

-Dec-Jan: New COVID variant and flu variants will cause more strain on hospitals due to the previous closures and anti-vac NIH.

Variable dates: Terrorist attacks, something with Russia and Ukraine, Trump “assassination attempt” that turns out to be a false alarm, Trump health scares, and at least one Cabinet member will be forced out due to crimes and/or incompetence.

i feel you, but i do not see any reason to think that any of these bad things are inextricably linked to the United States, i.e., the Constitution. To me, the core of the Constitution seems to be very compatible with Love, although the authors tried to cripple that message to suit incompatible interests, e.g., slavery.

After reading some parts of the Constitution again, i was disappointed by the mention of “Aid and Comfort” until i realized that the Constitution indicates that treason implies “Aid and Comfort” or declaring war against the United States, not that said “Aid and Comfort” is necessarily treasonous, which would necessarily imply persecution of religions of unconditional Love; in being unconditional, after all, Love does not discriminate by affiliation or past actions.

i do approve characterizing implementations of the United States as being afflicted with truly horrible things, though. This implementation has always had fascist-adjacent elements and, hell, has gone from being on the path to being the Mother of Exiles to just being the mama of all strays. But such hatred, such dehumanization is not aligned with the liberal spirit of the Constitution.

i welcome any disagreement here, and you are free to ask for any clarification.

The US constitution explicity enshrines the right to enslave people. I know of no other constitution with such a stipulation. All of the other rights you mention go out the window when people can just straight up be enslaved.

So, despite its ability to “easily” be amended, it still enshrines the right to enslave people? How is that supposed to make me feel better?

Stop apologizing for your wack ass constitution that was made solely by 20 something, white, male landowners. We are seeing now how easy it is to throw it out. Weak ass document.

i should have clarified that i was referring to the current incarnation of the Constitution, what with the amendments and all. The inclusion of slavery at all is horrible. i like non-cruel prison labor; anyone who is sincerely remorseful would love the chance to atone, but the labor must be voluntary. Compulsory anything is counter to Love. Punishment of any kind is counter to Love.

If you were thinking of the Thirteenth Amendment, then my only defense is that the Thirteenth Amendment does not specifically condone prison slavery, either, that prison slavery is undefined behavior, that the undefined behavior can serve as a means of easing people away from slavery, that, even with the exception, the Thirteenth Amendment did serve as a step in the right direction. The exception may be a compromise for people who wanted slavery for unconvicted and convicted people, thereby starting the process of easing into an incarnation which is free of anything resembling an endorsement of slavery of any kind.

In any case, an amendment to forbid all slavery is definitely in order and is thoroughly consistent with my understanding of the spirit of the Constitution.

The Constitution was written to enshrine Oligarchy, and sold as “Democracy” to those unwilling or unable to read and/or comprehend it. In the original, the only people with any rights and power were Rich, White, Males. The window dressing has changed over the decades, but the core remains. Rich White Males still own and operate the United States. There was no love in that document for anyone other than the Oligarchs.

I really don’t understand why people are upset about due proces now. The US established over 10 years ago that it’s OK to kill US citizens if they’re “terrorists”. But deportation is crossing the line?

There was endless handwringing about Obama hitting that dude with a drone strike.

But regardless… are you seriously going to pretend that is at all comparable to what is happening right now? A US citizen, in a foreign war zone, fighting for the enemy vs. kidnapping and trafficking US citizens from their homes in the US to a prison in El Salvador. A country they’ve never been to.

      C’mon bro.

You should proofread, bro. But I think I get your meaning.

It’s not for you or me to claim or “pretend” that any of these alleged crimes are comparable (unless we’re on the jury). It’s not the president’s job either, really. That’s why we have judges, juries, trials, and all that other boring “due process” shit.

Thank you for at least trying to answer the question. Even though I do secretly believe that assassination is more severe than deportation, I was genuinely asking about the difference in public response instead. I don’t recall nearly as much “handwringing” about Obama killing a kid, but that could just be because I was paying less attention to news during that time in my life.

They are appealing temporary restraining orders, which are not legally appealeable! TROs are extreme methods of relief designed to stop something from occurring that has a huge risk of irreparable harm, and are temporary so that the court can actually take the time to weigh the issue.

Usually a TRO is issued for 2-3 weeks, the court takes that time to come to grips with what’s happening, and then can rule with a better understanding. If you could just appeal a TRO, then you could just take the action that causes the irreparable harm faster than any court can effectively rule, which is why they’re not supposed to be appealeable.

So yes, appealing a TRO is dystopian and illegal, but who can stop it? The supreme court eventually…
