I was riding my motorcycle today and was gonna park in a parking lot. Nearby there was a 1-lane 1-way road, and I witnessed some car park there even though the parking lot was visibly not full from that road. An hour later it was still parked there, blocking the road. Idiot.
I’m not the type to run super intensive games, and even those games have plenty of warm up time in the form of a loading screen.
That being said, I have had instances of my entire system shutting down due to a graphically intensive game, but it’s much rarer than when running a local LLM.
How do I do that?
So the system is a gaming laptop which might explain things. The CPU has liquid metal for cooling and a lower TDP so it’s fine. Whereas the GPU has a higher TGP and if ran hard draws like 120W. If the GPU fans are not already on this quickly overwhelming the GPU thermally.
I have a memory consumption issue with Ubuntu, because I stupidly set up the system to have 0 swap. This means under high memory pressure, the entire system could suddenly crash.
To be fair, Windows isn’t a shining beacon either because whenever I attempt something very GPU intensive like running local LLMs the GPU overheats in a split second before the fans have time to spin up and the entire system shuts down.
We need more things priced under $2k like this. So many manufacturers trot out models with 60 miles of range and the power of a Grom and manage to make it $5k+ when a Grom can be had for under $4k. A Grom gets 100+mpg and is a hoot to ride, and a Navi has similar power and costs $2k.

I am a moderately liberal guy, and I cannot get any girls. I’m shorter than average and socially awkward. I’ve managed to get a few dates from dating apps but none of them went anywhere because I’m so awkward in person.
I should test this. I normally set an aggressive fan curve so the CPU doesn’t overheat, and because I game on my laptop I use the custom fan profile instead of the default quiet one. I should try using a different fan profile when not gaming.
I have a laptop that I dual boot Windows 11 and Ubuntu on.
If I leave the Windows desktop idle for >20 minutes the fans will almost always randomly flare up even though I’m doing nothing. On Ubuntu, the desktop usually stays silent, or sometimes the fans come on a little (probably due to bloated browser apps) but never flare up the way it does on Windows.
Everything by VoidTools is a million times better than the Windows search, it indexes every file and then actually finds it right away when you search for it.
Wow! How did that happen?
I don’t like doing that because it wears the battery. Better to have slightly inaccurate percentages than to actively make the long term situation worse
