The technology that would be required by the city could increase riders’ bills or play a continuous automated message stating something like, “No sidewalk riding.”
I agree, cyclists and scooter-ists shouldn’t be using sidewalks. In fact they should share the space with cyclists on protected lane! (And to whomever it may concern runners, joggers please stay the sidewalks!)
Ideally space would be provided for all. Something I think we can agree on is that no pedestrian, cyclist, scooter rider, etc. is going to fare well against a lifted pickup at 40mph and the biggest divide is between cars and vulnerable road users. I’ve biked in downtown Denver. There is some good infrastructure, but there’s also a lot of sketchiness, especially the further out you go. Until the road feels safe, people will use the sidewalk.
