Yeah, we know that he’s away (I’d assume he’s not fishing from his backyard, then he is definitely the asshole).
I got heavily downvoted, but just to collect the facts and assumptions:

    1. The kid is not a child, it is an adult who is able to drive.
    2. He (she?) is saying that they’re okay, so they are not endangered anymore
    3. Dad is out fishing. And places where people fiah are usually not 5 minutes from home
    4. Mom’s car is wrecked - that’s the most probable reason to write dad, as he has an “non-wrecked” car
    5. As it’s Mom’s car that is wrecked, she probably needs to know that, arrive at the spot anyway, because insurance, police, stuff like that. The “child” probably doesn’t want to call her because she could be quite upset.
    6. There are taxis.
    7. If mom is at work, I think a wrecked car and a “child” at the roadside is a good enough reason to leave for the day.
Summarizing all that, I don’t see how mom is out of the picture where she has one more reason to know about the situation, and how the adult offspring didn’t leave home in a taxi.

Do you tend to write down a list of bullet points every time a loved one needs help?

I tend to write a list of bullet points whenever I think, and it’s a good thing. Also, I got no one to save now.

“Child” includes some years where they can drive.

Being an adult doesn’t mean you will never need help from your parents again.

If mom is at work, why is leaving work the preferable option to dad leaving fishing? That also doesn’t mean she hasn’t been told.

They’re driving their mom’s car, they obviously are still living at home and probably don’t have a ton of money for a taxi, especially since dad could just stop fishing and come pick them up.

Married couples are usually both owners of their vehicles and on the same insurance plans, so dad could most likely handle insurance and accident related things.

I love how much you over analyze this st*pid meme so upvotes from me.

Still, and just for the sake of argument, your elaboration would justify the following responses: (note that this list is not exhaustive)

      • You are old enough to help yourself.
      • Does mom already known? / Have you told mom?
      • I’m too far out, go take a taxi / I’ll call you a taxi.
      • I can’t come but I’m here for you when you want to talk or text with me.

While this list is far from exhaustive, consciously not included is muting the conversion and shutting their child off. The point of the meme is that dad ignores child instead of helping or supporting them in any way.

And to finally enter the meta level: I don’t think this is real. I think it’s photoshoped or something, doesn’t look like AI but more likely than not it’s fake

I’m sick at home so I don’t have much to do :)
And Shitpost is one of the places on Lemmy which make surprisingly more sense.

On subject: A better answer from the dad - yes, completely justified.
