I get it, but if you pitched this to a movie studio they’d say it was far fetched, so the average person can be forgiven, I think.
Movie studios are frequently run by morons, anyone who isn’t completely politically & historically illiterate could tell you it’s not far-fetched at all, and this person had the money for an international vacation so they’re definitely not representative of the average anyway
I think you’re underestimating the normalcy bias and overestimating how much the average person outside the US understands about what’s going on there.
