I feel like someone my age wrote this because hotels are not around $100 anymore. Last concert i went to that was sufficiently far away to justify getting a room for the night, said room was over $200, tiny, and literally the cheapest in the building.

i feel weird. a few years ago i got a room for like 150 in a hcol area, downtown, on a holiday, during a festival, within walking distance of the festival, and i kind of felt like i was robbing the place. they could have charged twice that and gotten away with it. sometimes you just get lucky

It really depends. Holiday Inn Express can run close to 115-125 depending on location and nearby events. And there are certainly a lot of hotels under 100.

But if you’re anywhere near a decent metro under 100 is basically non-existent

Wow, that is an awful price for something like that, maybe it was adjusted for the concert? Check if booking for a longer period actually makes it cheaper

Hotwire is still pretty good and you can sometimes keep it around $100. You may also have been dealing with higher pricing due to an event in the area. But you’re also right that everything is more expensive.

      I don’t know about that.

More like most hostel users have have giant backpacks, many are tourists, and one really huge creep that wants to sell your liver. And the party is a Quiz game at 8pm to meet every other tourist.

        Really depends on the hostel

Some are like “it’s 10pm, so better shut the fuck up” and others be like “it’s 1:30, the night is just starting - let’s pump up the volume!”

But more often than not, it’s the more chill kind. Although there are still party hostels out there.
By now I’m probably also too old for that and appreciate a few hours of good sleep.

I exaggerate a little, but the socializing was the best part of the hostels I stayed at. Built-in interesting people to meet. I miss traveling. :(

as someone who has worked in both kinds of hotels: can confirm, this meme is spooky accurate; below $100 and the usual mixture of drug addicts, prostitutes, and general “people bringing fucking issues” come out of the woodwork.

As someone who works in a job where they’ll only ever book cheap hotels, I can confirm.
