A reminder that sheriffs are generally elected and are almost always attention seeking assholes. ACAB to the grave.

    Edit was for clarity.

That is truly not possible, the cancer of capitalism is too deep in the government for anything to actually get fixed. The only way would be a massive invasive surgery to remove the cancer, or the country collapses and we have to build back up.

Ive seen it happening since I was old enough to follow politics, we have done nothing but make it worse, never taking one step in the direction of positive change, at best we just stop marching towards the cliff edge for a few minutes. I used to think to myself “I hope this shitshow can at least keep going until I’m dead and gone” but its becoming clear that’s not the case. Now its economic collapse or facism or both. I’m fucking embarrassed by my country and more so a large swath of my country men that are just brainless fucking zombies without a single individually formed opinion, enthusiastically celebrating the dying breath of America, deluding themselves to thinking we are actually saving it.

I do not understand how it is not obvious to everyone alive that a system built on endless growth is destined to fail.

“Oh honey you just don’t understand. He’s doing this for your safety, and I trust him. You know you’d really like him if you gave him a chance. I thought I raised you to know better.”

Or some equally gaslit shit if they’re anything like mine.

        No, no nothing like that.

She’s staunchly against the idea that ACAB, and will fight tooth and nail that there are some bad apples but most want to help, yadda yadda.

          there are some bad apples

What do bad apples do, Mom? What is the consequence of a few “bad apples” that needed to be immortalized in idiom? Because I’m pretty sure the saying isn’t “A few bad apples don’t negatively affect the bunch in any significant way”.

As our sleazy ass SCOTUS is derelict in its duty to protect the Fourth Amendment, Colorado’s “Make My Day” law applies to warrantless raids in Denver. State’s rights, motherfuckers!

I’m wondering what will happen when a state’s National Guard gets conflicting orders from the governor of that state and the US Executive Branch.

The national guard can be requisitioned by the federal government. However, the state guard (often trained by/alongside the national guard and sharing members) cannot. They only answer to the governor.

I know we all felt like it was wild when De Santis reformed the Florida State Guard. But now I feel blue states need to do it.

Ahhh, I was unfamiliar with the State Guard.

The State Guard is the State’s non-federally recognized military force which may be composed of members of the Unorganized Militia who are 18 through 45 years of age, and those persons who are 45 through 65 years of age as determined necessary by the Governor.

I know from some previous digging on gun laws that basically everyone in Illinois is a member of the “Unorganized Militia.”

Whenever the Commander-in-Chief deems it necessary or advisable for the purpose of executing the laws of the State or to prevent an actual or threatened violation of law; when the nation is at war and a requisition or order has been made, or is likely to be made, by the President of the United States calling the National Guard, or parts thereof, into the National service; or for any other emergency, he or she may issue a proclamation calling for volunteers [my bold] to serve in the State Guard. Persons who answer the call and who are appointed or enlisted in the State Guard shall serve in State Active Duty status.

As of today, then, the Illinois State Guard is ephemeral. It will only crystallize into reality when and if the governor activates it by proclamation, and then it will be made up of volunteers.

On Monday, staffers placed signs on the White House lawn showing mugshots of immigrants, linking them to crimes with the word ”ARRESTED” written in all caps
