My wife comes from the west. I am from the East. We live in Nova Scotia now but we spent most of our lives in the west. We made some money in the oil and gas industry though it was in environmental reclamation not extraction. Lots of her family people are in extraction.

Some of her family are showing their true colors right now, loudly and proudly on Facebook and she is reading it all. People that tell her they love her are saying how we are all just in it for the transfer payments. It’s all for the gravy train to keep rolling. She’s watching her family disintegrate in real time on Facebook and tell her that she’s a piece of shit as are her friends and relatives from my family, for voting against fascism. Not one of them has considered that they are speaking about her.

We’re as fucked as our neighbors to the south.

Can’t disagree with you there. That shit can fuck right off and should be torn to a million pieces never to exist again. I’m not an authoritarian however and people are free to do as they choose. They choose badly a lot. Even those I love the most.

I got banned from Facebook for fighting literal terrorists. Who used the service to attack literal at risk children. If anything. mark Zuckerberg should be tried for crimes against humanity and he and his wife hung like the traitors to man kind they are.

    • We really should be turning an eye towards American owned media in Canada, especially since it’s almost entirely owned by hard Republican interests (and that would be bad if I had said Democrat as well).

It’s insane we can almost all collectively identify Trump as a threat and an enemy, but his disinformation arm isn’t.

They keep telling people to “move back to their own country” so why don’t these assholes just move to Florida. Heck, we can probably even crowd source some funding to pay for their damn tickets.

As someone from the US, I propose a swap program. One pro-Trump admin Canadian for an anti-Trump admin person from the US.

So we were right. The cons and PP by association wanted to concede to trump.

  • why don’t they just fucking move to America then? jesus, the solution isn’t to make canada america, but to move your ass to the country you like then

      • Yes, you can. Almost every country has a path to a visa/citizenship somehow. Work visa, student visa, investment visa, expat visa, green card, etc. etc. etc.

It takes some effort, but less effort than trying to install a dictatorship in your own country would I suspect.

If they care so much about how another country works that they want to replicate that where they live, their options are to campaign and make those changes in their country through a lot of political activism and a lot more luck; or move to the country they admire which just requires some paperwork.

One of those options feels harder than the other.

I get your point, but in what reality does it make more sense to move a country than to move to a country.

The stupidest thing Is making Canada one state. You guys should become states 51 to 151 and then take control of the USA government.

Canada wouldn’t become a state, and would have no representation if they were annexed. People are delusional if they think they would get full statehood and all the rights that entails.

It would be regressive democratically; our MP system is far from perfect, but the electoral college is much, much worse.

Set aside all the things Albertans regularly enjoy and take for granted, and that there is absolutely no way back under the American Constitution, our taxes here would either skyrocket or massively erode our quality of life overnight.

A surface level awareness of things is telling of why it’s very bad, but even that’s asking a lot these days of the regular fellow who’s exposure to politics is limited to what their favorite pundit says.

We should be carefully taking down names. Not to do anything now, but to hold them to account if another violent insurrection occurs.

Because even if Trump invades, these traitors will likely be hunting down the rest of us, and likely exterminating us as well. We need to be able to identify the traitors.

I’ve thought since Alberta separatism was first mentioned in the oval office that the idea would be to make Alberta be to Canada what Crimea is to Ukraine. The groundwork had been laid and the danger from the US is real. Thankfully, I believe Carney understands how real the US threats are.

How much of this do we see in Alberta this year?

    • Pro-US & Pro-secession information campaigns
    • Pro-secession protests & rallies
    • US, MAGA, & secessionist flags & slogans
    • Violence between pro-🇺🇸 & pro-🇨🇦 groups
    • Support from US-based groups
    • Staged referendum
    • Little green men

Ha! As a life long Albertan. We have had this cancer for a very very long time. Up until the NDP won an election a few cycles back the way it tended to work was the only way to unseat a conservative government was with an even more conservative government.

Is there a conservative versus liberal heat map of Canada? I’d like to see if there’s connectivity with the US version at the borders.

While I’m sure it’s true of most of the fediverse, hopefully at some point echo chambers can be broken. Maybe the chuds who scream like children at anything they don’t recognize as their ilk doesn’t need to be assaulted with lunacy.

So basically I hope all will leave Meta and the social media platforms of yore, even if they’re mouth breathing chuds. Maybe getting into a dose of friendliness will be their antidote to the big crazy

Doomberg, the most popular energy market substack poster, has a theory that Trump wanted Carney to win in order to push an east to west pipeline during an Alberta sovereignty crisis. It actually seems to be going all as they predicted, including Trudeau stepping down and Carney then winning the election.

    Its a fun theory anyways.
