Nearly 2,000 applications for British citizenship submitted since January, when Donald Trump took office

During the 12 months leading up to March, more than 6,000 US citizens have applied to either become British subjects or to live and work in the country indefinitely – the highest number since comparable records began in 2004, according to data released on Thursday by the UK’s Home Office.

Over the period, 6,618 Americans applied for British citizenship – with more than 1,900 of the applications received between January and March, most of which has been during the beginning of Donald Trump’s second US presidency.

The surge in US applications for UK residency comes as American immigration lawyers say they are receiving an increasing number of inquiries. Some are pointing to the polarized political climate in the Trump-led country, which itself is mounting an aggressive immigration-related crackdown.

    Nobody is standing up and people know what’s going on. This has played out before with the Nazis. Theyre the smart ones. I’m jealous I can’t afford to move from this shit show country. Cant believe im saying that. Never thought I would be one of those.

          they wont, thier so inside thier bubble they almost never leave outside thier state. at the most they will go to russia, belarus, but thats rare.

            Exactly. Most of them are too poor to travel and the ones who aren’t would go on a cruise or something. Generally speaking. I couldn’t imagine one even going to Russia or Belarus. That would involve research, planning and other cultures.

              they wouldnt survive in a culture that is very different from them, hence the american arrogance. like how a asian america going to china(somewhat relevant example), in that dog festival not expecting them to eat dogs, he got so upset he assaulted people there. i think this was a buzzfeed video

                Yeah. I dunno if it’s arrogance as much as it’s a culture bubble. In that particular case maybe. However, American culture feels omnipotent, especially in America. It’s much more difficult to get exposure to other cultures, art, movies, music etc. instead, it’s constant American pop music, Hollywood, Americanized versions of things. There are folks from other countries and cultural backgrounds, but they’re usually trying to fit in. Also, as an American traveling to other countries, there are tons of pieces of American culture. Can’t get away from Hollywood movies, American music, fast food chains, etc. Maybe that does embolden Americans to do things like that.

        Honestly just check that they graduated high school and can define the word empathy. That should filter out MAGA. Honestly, just the language proficiency exam should be enough.

      The ones who would aren’t going to leave. Most the republicans i know(mostly family) haven’t left the state in 20 years. And are deathly afraid of any other country in the world. It’s menacing. They believe the US is the best country on earth. Because they have experienced nothing outside of it except what American TV news is telling them.
