Half-Life: Alyx came out 5 years ago…
Alyx is not HL3, and I don’t get it when people say it is.
HL2E2 ended and we were left partway through a story that never received an ending.
I didn’t say it was HL3. I replied to a post implying the series hasn’t had an update in 20 years.
It’d be like a Star Wars fan wondering why there’s buzz about the movie coming out next year despite it being 42 years since Return of the Jedi. And the answer is that even if that’s the last one that particular fan personally cared about, there has been Star Wars media since then.
Also, Alyx did resolve the HL2E2 ending. It didn’t add a whole lot on past that, but the cliffhanger was very much addressed.
Right, that’s not what’s being discussed.
To be fair we know that a HL Sequel was worked on by Valve several times but always scrapped in various stages of production. So the rumours really came from somewhere reasonable and not just from pure speculation and desperation.

Tbh my existenial paranoia kind of took it that HL3 would start irl and I was one of those civilian models.

Hey, I’ll take anything over being stuck on the cliffhanger of Eli’s death for 20 years, and wrap up the whole Combine story as best as possible.
As TachyonTele suggested, you may want to play or read into Half Life Alyx. Time travel got involved.
What if I don’t have VR?
I’ve heard there are mods to play it on a flat screen. Obvs you’d lose a lot of the experience, but that would be a way to get the story.
If possible, I recommend giving Alyx a go, even if you have to borrow a headset, visit a friend, arcade, ect.
Not an option for everyone of course, Alyx aside VR is fun and while the entry requirements are getting lower it’s still a leap.
Valve will probably summarise the main story change in HL3, which will be a very WTF moment that’s kinda on brand with the scenario.
That cliffhanger got addressed in Half-Life: Alyx. And replaced with a different cliffhanger.
I’ve been fooled before. Not getting my hopes up till valve posts a trailer.

What can I say? I’m a hopeless romatic. Granted it would have to be more than a teaser trailer. But still, I suppose I’m subject to flights of fanciful hope.

TIL the grabby gloves thing I missed due to lack of VR gear wasn’t HL3.
I’ll believe it when it’s out, but that would be the best decision, no one likes waiting 15 years between sequels.
