Interestingly enough; the areas where you see dog and cat consumption aren’t just found in areas of complete poverty. The meat tends to be consumed either as a necessity (as you alluded to) or a delicacy; it’s never really a standard dish.
The more I think about it though; the less I’m surprised that billionaires would eat our pets and consider it a delicacy.
Horses and bunnies are totally edible.
Thus doesn’t even list turtles, goats, or sheep - all delicious.
