does anyone know anyone in real life who’s into this? it feels like a meme coin or beanie babies where the media won’t shut up about how hot it is, and yet, you don’t know anyone on the bandwagon
This is pretty similar to Beanie Babies, but not Pokemon or Pog because you could play with those. Beanie Babies were popular for some reason (right place right time? Brilliant viral marketing?) and then became an investment opportunity. Same with Labubu. I’ve always seen talk about how much they’re worth, and the blind box adds a bit of gambling to it, which I guess is similar to opening a pack if cards.
My nieces. I don’t understand it. Maybe it’s something like with Pokémon or Yu-Gi-Oh cards back then. It’s popular for some reason, children get on board with it and want to be a part of it and then we get this trend.
Yea, but Pokemon and yugioh where actual games that you could play. Not saying that can’t play with dolls, but its way different from cards.
Also I know no one in my circle owning one, and I find it a fake hype.
This is the same sort of thing boomers would say about Pokemon and Yugioh.
I’m not even a boomer.
Sounds like something a boomer would say. But seriously, they didn’t call you a boomer.
Dude… I’m still not done with the fidget spinner fad. This is going too fast!
… It’s adults buying these??? I thought this was just another kid fad thing, which I would at least understand!
I had to open the freaking link to try to understand what lububu word even means 🥲
Something something hyperconsumerism.
This lady’s jort game is strong.
Finally! Something cute to put in my display wall of 126 limited-edition Stanley cups.
They kind of remind me of MonChiChi and I didn’t understand those either
Oh yeah I had one of those when I was a kid 🙂 I never liked it because it was a combination of plush toy (nice) with hard rubber bits in it (not nice).
