I washed my stinky rain jacket today and bits of it fell apart and are now stuck on all my clothes. I just LOVE microplastics on my clothes and face.
So, I was looking at jackets today that hopefully weren’t entirely made from synthetic material, and woe, all of the mens jackets are different shades of black or dark blue. The womans jackets however… Flame orange? Spicy Red? Yesss! But, how can I know what size fits my male-ness? Can you give me some tips? Just the tips?

Do the jackets list measurements? Measure all the way around your chest at the fullest point (measure tape all the way around under your armpits).
If you don’t have flexible measuring tape you can use a piece of string and measure it against a measure stick.
I can confirm that this is what you want to do. And while your at it, you may want to get ALL of your measurements too (leg length, arm length, hip/waist circumfrances, torso hight, etc) and write them all down to save. That allows you to basically shop from anywhere (men or women’s in any brand) by checking your measurements. It’s a real game changer and totally worth the 15 minutes it takes to get them all.
Yes I agree!! Having a note in my phone with all my measurements has saved me a lot of worries. I’d recommend to ask someone to help you btw, if possible of course.
The problem likely isn’t the synthetic materials but the construction method. Make sure it’s 3-layer construction, not 2- or 2.5-layer :)
And also make sure to wash it as instructed. I had a collapsable raincoat poly raincoat that lasted 20 years simply because I cleaned it correctly
pro tip. don’t wash jackets 🙂 just rinse them…
I got a 3 later waterproof breathable shell from mountain hardware. works great. use it all year round
