I feel like there is no inbetween for tutorials. They ethier think you have only discovered computers and the internet today or that you know every programing language and have a CS PhD.

Sometimes both in the same article!

They’ll start by explaining what the internet is before descending into a dense conversation about how to use eBPF to do packet filtering and observability - just who is the audience that needs both halves of this?

Here‘s the kicker: some folks don’t even question how cars work, how the lights work, how their microwave works, yet all ot them have tutorials.

Now ask Annie what she thinks I should wear, and watch how those neurons fire up.

      I’m aware

      it’s satire.
But this a matter of selective bias. Like, who actually reads the tutorials on how to wash your clothes, and sunglasses ftm.

This is how I, a developer with 25 years’ experience, still read many software tutorials. And I have a relatively high tolerance for technical detail. Often it seems the person writing the tutorial is in too deep, and they should have got a friend to write it with their help.

I appreciate comments like yours, and various others echoing the same sentiment in this thread and the HN thread. I’m far more proficient with techy stuff than the vast majority of people, but it’s easy to feel incompetent if you’re exposed to challenges outside of your primary domain (a feeling exacerbated by hanging out in spaces where most people seem to be super techy). It’s validating to hear that even people far more experienced than me struggle with tutorials sometimes.

Jeez, RTFM loser. And don’t post again without including a full log, dump and stack trace that I’m not going to tell you how to create, or you’ll be banned. You’ll also be banned if you ask how to make those.

I felt like this trying to mod a game that wasn’t working through nexus mods vortex thing. I did get it to work. I felt no joy.

Ugh, this is exactly how I feel when it comes to modding games.

“You need RandomAndy’s Live Framework (RALF) version 2.01b. Don’t use 2.01c, it has issues, but some stuff is built for .c so make sure you check each component. Don’t download it from the main site though - it comes packaged with YAMP4A (Yet Another Mod Pack for Armour) so you don’t need to worry about it. Now to install my mod you need these three separate packages…”

Christ, this cannot be worth it.
