The network pulled the show after the Federal Communications Commission chair threatened regulatory action after the host’s comments about Charlie Kirk’s death.
Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show will return to ABC’s airwaves on Tuesday, nearly a week after it was suspended amid criticism of the host’s remarks about the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
But many households across the U.S. still may not see the show. Sinclair, a company that operates more than 35 ABC affiliates across the U.S., said that it would replace Kimmel with news programming.
“Beginning Tuesday night, Sinclair will be preempting ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ across our ABC affiliate stations and replacing it with news programming. Discussions with ABC are ongoing as we evaluate the show’s potential return,” Sinclair said in a statement.
Sinclair runs our local ABC station and I fully expect violent protests. We’ll have to see how that works out.
I really hope it’s true that they asked him to apologize and he told them to pound sand.
Break down the statement that was “OMG SOOOO OFFENSIVE!”
“We hit some new lows over the weekend (TRUE) with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them (TRUE - they were calling it an act of “the violent left” before we even knew who the kid was) and doing everything they can to score political points from it.” (TRUE - like getting people fired from their jobs).

Same - seriously considering buying an antenna this afternoon so I can see which advertisers I need to boycott and let know Sinclair is bad for business.
I have my tin foil hat on, but I’m wondering if the Sinclair owners are willing to take a loss on their media front in order to have the social influence of the local TV stations. The influence may be more valuable to them than the revenue.
Look at how long Faux was in the red. I don’t think you are wearing a tin foil hat. The wingnut welfare set saw all those years as an investment, not a loss.
I was driving around in Utah not too long ago, and until you drive through the real hinterlands of this country, you just don’t realize what a wasteland most of terrestrial radio is once you get beyond metro areas. When flipping around, I’m pretty sure one of the strongest signals was Hannity - but he was on three, maybe four (?), different bands. On FM. This shit - all the Limbaugh clones - used to be all over the dial on AM since at least the mid-90s, but I guess they are now creeping into the FM bands.
I would not be surprised at all if most of hate radio is propped up by wingnut welfare, too.
Probably. I still don’t want to give their advertisers money.
Do it anyway. Stop paying for what you can get for free.
Don’t worry - I’m not paying for it.
To me my biggest hope is that he takes their calls to donate to TurningPointUSA… and flips them.
"So, some asked me to donate to TurningPointUSA as an apology, I’ve decided it’s more appropriate to donate to (pick a gun control charity here),
nah, we need guns right now, pick another anti fascist charity lol
I mean lets be real, none of these charities are pushing to ban guns, more like simple things like universal background checks etc… Point is if the goal is to give a middle finger to conservatives while describing it as honoring kirk, gun control would be the ideal, as that’s litterally the cause of his death.
ACLU or something would be better and more effective
I actually saw that segment. Had they argued that he disparaged the US government it still would’ve been none of their business, but at least it would’ve been the truth.
They asked him not only to apologize on CK’s behalf but also to donate to TP USA.
Violent protest by who
It’s Portland, so…
Disney needs to yank affiliate status from Sinclair and Nexstar.
You would need some way to inform the public how that even works to motivate it to happen.
…why?
Because no regular person understands the business model, so it would be hard to make a pressure campaign if people don’t understand why.
OK, I understand what you were trying to say now, thanks.
Oh please piss off the mouse
Who gives a fuck. He’s on Youtube.
I don’t think it’s the fact that certain parts of the country in Sinclair footprints will not see it on TV. It’s that Sinclair is wielding it’s massive footprint as a [partisan] weapon.
And specifically a political one in support of fascism
Monopoly, you say?
This ^, if the stations never show it again and the propaganda news stations never report that its back on the air, then the Republican base will think they won a battle against the libs
And that’s the real point - knowing who won!
They should put it on Disney+, it might regain some subscribers. Wouldn’t be the first ABC show to also be on Disney+ the next day
