I think of it like beauty - there’s not much disagreement about whether someone is a 9, but a 10 is completely subjective. For someone to be breathtakingly stunning, there usually has to be something about them that most other people don’t see.
Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.

We don’t have a name for non-golfers either.
So therapist is responsible for rape - not the rapist?
That doesn’t make any sense.
It is possible to genuinely believe that abortion is equivalent to murder. I don’t see how you jump from there to them being anti-life.
In our group chat my two other friends have exhanged literally 800 messages trying to figure out which of the newest models is best for them as if there any difference between them or between the few years old ones they already have. I literally spent less time considering the purchase of my house.
I agree but only if it’s over land so that there’s no plausible deniability of airspace violation.
Quite a homogenous user base with incredibly predictable reactions and views on world events, and the feed is basically just US politics and other news articles designed to make people angry or reinforce their pre-existing beliefs. This simply isn’t a fun place to be. The so-called “regrettable minutes” make up a really high percentage of the total time spent here. And that’s even after I’ve blocked virtually all of the worst communities and users, as well as built a long list of content filters based on keywords. I just have no desire to recommend anyone come here, since I’d consider that bad advice. This is a perfect example of what’s wrong with social media. Reddit’s nowhere near perfect either, but I was much less unhappy there.
I don’t. Even I don’t like it here. I’m just a man of principle so I’m not going back to Reddit so this’ll have to do.
For a layperson, philosophy doesn’t have an obvious practical application. They think philosophers just sit around pondering esoteric topics and can’t imagine why anyone would pay them for it.
I suggest that in the future you save the condescension for the end, not the start, if you want the recipient to actually finish reading your message.
Why do you assume that the person advocating to not be an asshole wouldn’t be fun at parties?
You can express your views about these people in a dispassionate manner as well. It’s not a choice between being a dick about it or agreeing with them. Nothing good comes from passive aggression. You’d probably consider that toxic too if it were directed at you or your opinions.
Why do you need to? Arent there enough assholes already?
I’m not gen-z nor against porn broadly speaking but I’m in the 5% of people who develop addiction/compulsion to it and it completely destroyed my sex drive to the point that I’d rather watch porn than have sex. Personally I don’t mind but it makes having a romantic relationship quite difficult and it has now cost me two of them.
I don’t feel like early access to it is the problem here however. It’s excessive consuption thorought my entire life.
10 days clean now. Wish me luck.
mistaking performance for discourse, spectacle for persuasion.
Lemmy in a nutshell. A clever dunk will always “win” you a debate even though nobody changed their mind.
I don’t disagree but what’s also true is that some products are already as good as they can get and no longer need innovation. I know this is a bold claim but I’d argue that my dumb fridge without screen or internet connection keeps my food just as cool as the latest smart fridge.
Good. If your fridge is connected to the internet you deserve to be served ads.
I say wether, not whether, and anyways, not anyway. I also never remember how to write thorought.
Fair enough, but just because a term exists doesn’t mean it’s sensible.
