  • Scan everyone’s Iris, give them a forum like Reddit or Lemmy, tie the vote to their Iris scan, and create a funding mechanism like world coin to enable the transfer of value from other systems to the new system. Boom. Let people directly fund the initiatives they support, up to a certain amount of you want to avoid Citizens United type shit. By definition there will be people left out of the process, but a good version of this system would have an initiative to distribute tools to interested people without access.

Nationalization of private companies? How is that not a communist act? Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s a fascist first and foremost but he’s doing some weirdly collectivist stuff. Which is funny because that is what actually uneducated Americans (not me, and it’s pretty funny you consider yourself to be a spokesperson for “the educated world” when you’re most likely a barely bilingual teenager) have been screaming about for a long time despite our socialized car culture, military, and corporate welfare program. But you go on and raise your blood pressure about things you don’t fully understand and yell on the Internet at people you certainly have little chance of challenging intellectually.

  • I’ve worked with a ton of these guys, they’re most often on H2A visas from Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala… And some of the companies that contract them are… Not diligent about paperwork. Sucks for the guys. And beyond that, forestry work and wildland firefighting will absolutely grind to a halt without them in the west and southeast. Absolutely kneecapping all efforts to reduce fuels and replant burns/clear-cuts. There’s an argument to be made that the use of these crews is essentially forced labor anyway (pretty crazy economic gradient from here to their home countries) but all the guys I worked with were stoked to have the job and returned year after year. Anyhow I was definitely waiting for this to happen, and it’s going to result in more dysfunction in the forest industry.
