From reading headlines here on Lemmy I know the Florida governor was threatening charges but IDK what really happened. My impression was that they were expecting support from the Trump admin but it didn’t really materialise and the US wasn’t the safe harbour they had hoped for.

IIRC they were in Romania and when the Trump admin landed in January the brothers some how got special leave to travel on the proviso they returned for their hearings later. They went to Florida thinking that they would get looked after by the Trump admin, but it didn’t go very well and the governor of Florida was threatening charges in the US.
So to my knowledge there was no formal “asylum” but they were banking on their ideology aligning with Trumps.
Apologies, I didn’t mean the legal definition of pf Asylum. The Tate brothers are both American citizens, but they’re definitely leaning on the current political climate in the US to avoid consequences
Yep US will likely protect him. Good news is that there’s no statute of limitations on these crimes so they’ll never go away.

Yeah but if Trump was going to give them succour it’s not very likely they would voluntarily go back to Romania.
