I look forward to the day I never hear about this guy again.

What’s shameful is Spotify is still allowing some of Andrew Tate’s content. If you have a Spotify account please consider contacting Spotify and send them a message saying you want Andrew Tate completely removed, want Spotify to stop funding Joe Rogan and demand a feature to block podcasts the same way you can block artists for songs. Also maybe consider ending your Spotify subscription. When you cancel your subscription you will be prompted to explain why you’re canceling. It’s crucial to fill you the reason. Say you’re canceling because you don’t like Andrew Tate and Joe Rogan.

Also congratulations on your downvotes! You’re annoying the right people

I always wonder if the people silently downvoting helpful comments like that know their downvotes are technically public, like anything you post on lemmy, if you’re using the right tool to look at a post.

I don’t think it’s a good idea to do callouts over it or even block people over a single downvote; god knows I fat finger upvotes all the time, and the only reason I don’t do the same for downvotes is Blahaj has them turned off. But boy does it validate my blocking instincts when I peek and it’s someone I’ve already blocked.

I went the next step and use xmanager to basically pirate premium Spotify, so now I’m also costing them money.

I know it’s not for everyone, but for me I feel like buying music I like directly from the artist/label or via bandcamp has been a better experience. Now I have a library of DRM free music, and I know the musicians got a better cut.

Spotify paid ridiculous sums of money, specifically to get Joe Rogan.

They absolutely do not care about complaints about tate.

Not to say you shouldn’t try, you should, just that it’s screaming into the void until the monetary price of continuing support is greater than at least some combination of sunk cost + potential profit. ( so $250m + whatever their profit projections are ).

Sure, enough pressure from the ad execs would bring about change, probably.

I just wanted to point out that they aren’t working with a moral or ethical baseline, only money.

And I wanted to point out working with a moral or ethical baseline is what makes entertainment industry capable of producing their profits, for all the good and bad that comes with.

I don’t exactly disagree, but i think my stance is that the money is the reason and the morals/ethics are a byproduct of having to do what it takes to get that money, in certain markets.

Unfortunately I believe both of them are currently in Romania/US at the moment. The UK may have brought charges against them, but they seem to have pretty much escaped prosecution in Romania and have found Asylum in the US under the current government. It’s unlikely that either Tates step back into the UK.

Isn’t there a warrant for their arrest in Florida? I believe they were there for two nights and on one of these nights he raped someone. I think he went back to Romania to escape US jail.

I don’t know much about them.

From reading headlines here on Lemmy I know the Florida governor was threatening charges but IDK what really happened. My impression was that they were expecting support from the Trump admin but it didn’t really materialise and the US wasn’t the safe harbour they had hoped for.

Yeah I’m not an expert on the Tate brothers and I’m not going to search them up.

IIRC they were in Romania and when the Trump admin landed in January the brothers some how got special leave to travel on the proviso they returned for their hearings later. They went to Florida thinking that they would get looked after by the Trump admin, but it didn’t go very well and the governor of Florida was threatening charges in the US.

So to my knowledge there was no formal “asylum” but they were banking on their ideology aligning with Trumps.

Apologies, I didn’t mean the legal definition of pf Asylum. The Tate brothers are both American citizens, but they’re definitely leaning on the current political climate in the US to avoid consequences

Because Trump pressured Romania to let him out and he fled the country. Now a different court has to start all over with a different case.

Edit: the article says he returned to Romania to face the charges, as a show of bravado to claim that innocent men don’t run. The UK prosecution said “the domestic criminal matters in Romania must be settled first”.

Can anyone tell me more about the Crown Prosecution Service, and UK criminal courts in general?

    Tap for spoiler

I try not to get hopeful about this stuff, knowing that he’d be getting a pardon if it were an American court… thankful it’s not, but I hope UK has better processes…

OK so IANAL but I do know a little bit about this.

The CPS are national government prosecutors. If a case is a minor offence (or there’s absolutely no proof at all) police can decide if there’s evidence for it to go to court, otherwise CPS do. CPS then manage the case (eg tell police to do other enquiries), and then the CPS present the case in court.

With it being high profile realistically a fuckton of work will have been done and senior CPS will be involved. They’ll push this case HARD and be really thorough cos staff need to cover their arse. You might find the CPS charging code useful, it shows how they handle each offence.

I did some digging and it looks like extradition is fiddly and requires judges (see here). Some countries dont play well with the UK, some do. It’s messy cos he’s not in the UK so you’re dealing with another countries laws, policies and politics. That side I don’t know about.

I really don’t see anyone in the UK pardoning him for this. Nobody will risk their career, and I don’t know if they’d legally be allowed to pardon for multiple awful offences. If he’s helped out of it, it’ll be behind the scenes game of thrones maneuveres. Eg someone finds a procedural issue with the case, and a judge is influenced into saying the issue makes the case unlawful and has to be dropped. It’ll be unprovable, untraceable, invisible help.

So things don’t look good for Tate right now. That could change but right now, he’s proper in the shit.

Bro the world was so much better when he became irrelevant after he got bagged, then adolescence came out (great show btw) and people started mentioning his name again, for no FUCKING reason, the 12 y/o boy in the tv show got bagged for murder not fucking human trafficking or rape, genuinely absolutely no human being of any value wanted to hear his name uttered again (ik it tackled the issues of mysoginy and reh teh teh but genuinely everyone stopped caring about him)

He’s a pathetic little attention whore and it’s never been more evident since he fell back into obscurity he’s been so desperately doing increasingly more pathetic things for even a fraction of the attention he used to get. The clips that have surfaced of him in the past year or so are so cringe and embarrassing, cuz he’s trynna gain attention and failing, making it even more embarassing.

His name got rinsed by social media and then everyone forgot about him. This bruddas more whorish than any woman he’s ever referred to.
