because of the power imbalance. if you run them locally they’re dependent on you to live. it’s like marrying a pet.

I’m not sure, if I would like to run a potential e-gf on a remote server, trusting a company to keep the service live

If people are that emotionally involved, it seems just naturally, that they like…wanna live together

And the power imbalance will always be there.

see that’s the problem. if they can not exist without infrastructure that you either control or pay someone to control, they are 100% dependent on you. if we assume the agi idiots are actually right for a moment and autocomplete can indeed achieve sentience, if you fell out of love they would still not be able to leave without your consent.

Well, I could build a little power station, where itself has control over

But yeah, of course I can always pull the plug - but I could also always cancel a subscription or force a delete of its memory, because of privacy rights

So doesn’t really matter if it’s remote or local…

What about locally run from someone you get to know and trust? Like our Lemmy instances, and eventually if the human and e-partern want to have e-kids they can host their own, who eventually grow up and meet someone they like to spend their time together.

Imagine your e-partern inviting you to dinner with their server admins, it would ve pretty cute.

Acceptable boomer shit in my opinion. Have sex with as many robots as you want, but don’t become emotionally dependent on something that doesn’t have emotions, thoughts, or feelings.

Might want to read up on the ELIZA effect, I don’t think everyone will have the mental willpower to avoid that scenario.

That’s interesting. I was unfamiliar with the term and circumstances of the ELUZA effect, but I guess I know people attribute human characteristics to computers. Maybe some people will fall for it, but society shouldn’t accept it. AI character chat bots are already doing damage to vulnerable people.

That’s funny. As if we can afford kids. One trip to the grocery store costs more than I make in a day - and that’s after successfully negotiating for a higher wage. I can only imagine how much prices will skyrocket by the end of the year (without wages rising to meet them.)

Best of luck to anyone trying to feed a growing family.

Watch the movie “Her”. This will be the future.

Personally, I’m cool if you fall in love with your robot slave. I won’t even care what you do in the bedroom or how many robot “abortions” you get.

Do you and be with that robot forever. Would be a welcome practice for population control. The earth needs a break anyways.

Seriously, watch it. it’s a damn good movie. Bonus: when describing the guy on the cover, “smug” is just about the last word you’d use.
