US liberal politics is a facade of good will to hide the same pro-corporate agenda pushing that the other party does while hiding behind a facade of moral vitriol. US libertarians believe in enforcing one’s own freedoms with force rather than relying on government force to defend your rights. US leftists have no political base in our elections, by design.

Cultural, for sure. I had to tough it out for the first bit, only really liking the detective. But then when all the main characters got replaced over and over, I began to see humanity as the main character, collectively, and then I was hooked, which I’m sure was the intent as the story spans >!all of time in the universe 2 times over,!< It’s worth revisiting.

*the last book (or some 4th book, I forgot) isn’t written by Chixen Liu, but they liked it so much they wrote off on publishing it in the series as a means to wrap up some critical questions.

Underlegislation leads to a bloated, extortionate upper crust that weilds disproportionate power over those who rely on said financial system. There is a balance, and the problem you outline is the lesser of the two extremes.

Sci Fi is a flavor of fantasy that favors grounded explainations over magic, yet can’t escape it entirely. In order for something to be sci fi, it must have something in it that can be percieved as “magical,” even in the “sufficiently advanced technology” sense of the word. Jump/warp tech, laser weapons, space warfare in general, most life support concepts, AGI… All magic as far as we know now. Any sci fi without the roots of fantasy is really just modern fiction.

That’s a smoke screen. Another is the “liberal brainwashing machine” school system scare. What they fear is the statistic that higher educated individuals trend towards populism and progressivism. They see higher education of youths as a threat to their political base, which turns into “spineless parents sending kids to liberul brainwashing camps funded by the gubmnt.”

Not to mention that if he is off of any 1 ballot and loses, he has ammunition for another Jan6. If he has a “fair shot” and loses, there is less plausibility and (hopefully) fewer followers in the repeat.
